TO BE BLESSED (IV)
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” Matthew 5:6 NIV
To hunger and thirst for righteousness is not a mere exercise of talk and action, but to crave ardently, eagerly and with profound desire.
This is not to be mistaken for legalistic and censoring judgement toward those whom we personally deem unrighteous for it is not for us to judge; but a personal search and deep reflection in and through which we are found emptied enough for God to fill us with Himself. To hunger and thirst for righteousness is to live with a deep ache that only God can satisfy. It is the quiet endurance of those who bear injustice without retaliation, trusting the Lord to defend them in His time and in His way.
Child of God, let it be said of you that your pursuit of God was a beckon of light to those who stood by for in Him the fullness of God is made manifest in our lives. This longing is the result of grace working within us, shaping our desires and qualifying us to receive the fullness of God’s favor. And those who carry this hunger will not be left empty.
God Himself has promised to fill them.
Prayer: My Father, I thank you for the hunger and thirst that you have created in me with the intention to satisfy it. Your word tells me you are a rewarder of those who diligently seek you. May my pursuit always be the evidence of the work of grace and not pride, in Jesus name. Amen!
