CLOTHED IN HUMILITY (II)
“In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:5-7 NIV
In yesterday’s devotion, we reflected on the charge given to those entrusted with the care of God’s flock. They are to lead by example, walking in holiness, practicing self-control, and modeling the very truths they preach. These duties are not to be performed under pressure, fear, or shame, but willingly, from hearts that find joy in serving God.
In the same spirit, Peter now turns our attention to those being led. He reminds us that submission to spiritual leadership is not a lesser calling, but a mark of maturity and humility. When we embrace the process God has set for our growth, through obedience, correction, and perseverance — we make room for His favor to rest upon us.
Child of God, no one can withstand God’s opposition. And Scripture is clear: pride provokes His resistance, while humility draws His grace. Make humility the garment you choose daily—the posture of your faith. For as you walk in meekness, He will shape, strengthen, and, in due time, lift you into all He has prepared.
Prayer: My Father, I thank You for this truth. I humble myself under Your mighty hand, and I welcome every lesson You bring through the leaders and seasons You’ve placed in my life. I receive Your counsel with joy, knowing it sanctifies me and prepares me for every good work You ordained before the foundation of the world. Let it be said of me that my life reflected Your goodness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
