THE WISE KEEPER

“Be sure you know the condition of your flocks, give careful attention to your herds; for riches do not endure forever, and a crown is not secure for all generations.” Proverbs 27:23-24 NIV

God has entrusted each of us with something to steward. It may not be livestock or land, but it could be your family, your calling, your work, your health, or even your walk with Him. These verses are not simply agricultural advice — they are a divine reminder to pay attention, and tend what has been entrusted to you.

Watching over what you’ve been given as though it actually matters is a form of honor — because to God, it does matter. We live in a world where it’s easy to be distracted by what’s next. We chase after opportunities, elevation, wealth, and titles, forgetting that nothing on this side of eternity is guaranteed to last. Riches fade. Positions shift. Crowns fall. And if we’re not careful, we’ll spend our energy maintaining images while neglecting the substance beneath them.

This proverb invites us back to diligence, and holy attentiveness — the kind that sees people, responsibilities, and seasons as assignments, not accidents. God is not just watching what we build; He’s watching how we care for it. Whether it’s your marriage, your ministry, your business, or your spiritual health, the question is the same: Are you paying attention?

Some neglect out of laziness. Others out of burnout. Some out of misplaced priorities. But the call remains: Know the condition of your flocks. Take stock of your heart. Reevaluate the habits you’ve let slide. Give careful attention to what matters before the opportunity to do so fades.

Because what you ignore, you risk losing. Selah

Prayer: My Father, I thank you for teaching me to be faithful with what You’ve placed in my hands. Help me not to overlook the little things or take for granted the things that seem secure. Show me where I’ve grown careless or distracted. Restore in me a heart of diligence, and renew my sense of purpose in every assignment You’ve entrusted to me. I am faithful in what I was meant to steward. Keep me present, attentive, and faithful. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
