HOW TO HANDLE GOVERNING AUTHORITIES (II)
“Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.” Romans 13:2 NIV
Yesterday, we spoke about authority being appointed by God—an expression of His sovereignty, not a blanket endorsement of every person who holds power. Even when leaders fall short of godly character, their position still speaks to a divine structure that God Himself has permitted.
Today, we examine our responsibilities as those under authority. While leaders will give their own account before the Lord, those who rebel against them also face consequences. God never endorses rebellion—whether against a parent, a leader, or any other God-ordained structure. Scripture is clear in James 4:6: “God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.” Rebellion is often rooted in pride, not in righteousness. And pride always invites resistance—not from man, but from God Himself.
Child of God, remember this: before anyone else witnesses your stance, God sees it. Live with an audience of One. In every situation, ask yourself—Am I pleasing God or simply reacting to man? If your conscience is aligned with His revealed will and nature, trust Him. Where you are wronged, He will vindicate. Where you are right, He will affirm and increase. Hallelujah!
Prayer: My Father, I thank You for the wisdom of Your Word. Keep my heart soft toward authority and free from pride. Teach me to live humbly and righteously, not by the sway of man, but by the leading of Your Spirit. Help me trust that You are both my Defender and my Rewarder. In Jesus’ name, amen.
