SONS AND HEIRS
“Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.” Galatians 4:6-7 NIV
The concept of heirship is beyond just having rights on a father’s house. It’s about carrying forward the father’s authority, identity, and mission.
In the ancient world, it had legal standing, rights and privileges, as well as continuity—not just of the wealth at hand but of the name of a particular family. With that in mind, being called co-heirs with Christ binds us to similar responsibilities: to exercise divine authority on earth as in heaven, to walk in the identity of sons and daughters bestowed upon us by grace through faith, and to preach the good news to all of the earth every chance we get.
Child of God, this means you are not only a precious son in His sight, but you are a treasured possession (Deuteronomy 32:9), you have His blessings in spiritual and tangible form (Genesis 15:7), and you are heir in all things through Christ as promised (2 Samuel 7:12). With this understanding, you must walk, talk, decide, and think in alignment with the reality of who you are in Christ.
You are not just welcomed into God’s family; you are entrusted with His legacy, His promises, and His kingdom.
Prayer: My Father, I thank You that through Christ I am not only called Your child but also made an heir of Your kingdom. Thank You for the Spirit within me who reminds me daily of my true identity. Help me to live worthy of this calling, to walk in the authority You’ve given, to embrace the mission You’ve entrusted, and to rest in the inheritance secured for me in Christ. May my life reflect the riches of Your grace and point others to the hope of being sons and heirs with You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
