WHO’S SEED ARE YOU?

“But it is not that the word of God has taken no effect. For they are not all Israel who are of Israel, nor are they all children because they are the seed of Abraham; but, “In Isaac your seed shall be called.” That is, those who are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God; but the children of the promise are counted as the seed.” Romans 9:6-8 NKJV

Both Isaac and Ishmael were sons of Abraham, yet Isaac alone was begotten by divine enablement. The distinction between the two was not in the father they shared, but in the source of their birth, one of the flesh, and the other of promise.

When Scripture says, In Isaac your seed shall be called,” it reveals more than God’s choice but unveils His redemptive plan. Through Isaac’s line would come Christ, the promised Seed through whom all nations would be blessed. God’s selection was not favoritism, but fulfillment of prophecy. Our theme scripture is part of a series of Paul’s laments over Israel, the very people through whom God first chose to reveal Himself. His sorrow was hey had rejected the purpose of His revelation and, in doing so, had rejected Christ Himself.

As believers, we must be careful not to repeat the same pattern. Whenever we lean on our own works, status, or reputation, we operate as children of the flesh. But when we rest in God’s promise, trusting His grace above our efforts, we live as children of faith — true heirs according to the promise. Let us, therefore, be found as those begotten of the Spirit, not striving to prove our belonging by merit, but abiding in the righteousness freely given through Christ Jesus.

Prayer: My Father, thank You for calling me not by merit but by promise. Teach me to walk as a true child of faith, resting in Your grace and not in my own works. May I continually live as one begotten by Your Spirit, bearing the fruit that reflects my inheritance in Christ. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
