THE DISTINCTION OF VOICES

“Now, brothers and sisters, if I come to you and speak in tongues, what good will I be to you, unless I bring you some revelation or knowledge or prophecy or word of instruction? Even in the case of lifeless things that make sounds, such as the pipe or harp, how will anyone know what tune is being played unless there is a distinction in the notes?” 1 Corinthians 14:6-7 NIV

One of the most vital skills in the journey of a believer is the ability to distinguish the voices around them. The late Derek Prince, a renowned minister, kept a small circle of trusted friends, men who were both ministers and family men.

Over the span of more than three decades, they made a vow to God and to one another: every major decision in their lives would be brought before the group for counsel. They understood that “in the multitude of counselors there is safety.”

This commitment was not always easy. Decisions about marriage, ministry, finances, desires, and personal direction were often tested against this shared vow. But because they valued the weight of that covenant, they disciplined their ears to listen to a unified, trustworthy, godly sound. Voices that meant well. Voices that meant love.

So it is with us, child of God. In this age, many voices seek to disciple us. Their sound may be compelling, persuasive, even attractive. But never lose the true voice, that of Christ in you, the hope of glory.

His is the only distinction that brings revelation, clarity, and life. Praise Him!

Prayer: My Father, I thank You for being the true voice that anchors my soul. My ear is attuned to your sound. Every competing counsel is silenced because I have disciplined what I let it, and by your grace I am strengthened to walk in the clarity that comes from you alone. Guard my heart from confusion and draw me continually to the wisdom that comes from Your Spirit. In Jesus’ name, amen.
