SIMPLE LIKE THE CHRIST

“The student is not above the teacher, nor a servant above his master.” Matthew 10:24 NIV

As believers, there is a temptation to appear deep, not necessarily out of devotion to the Lord, but to impress those who look at us.

It is good to know the Word, to be knowledgeable, and to be able to defend the hope that we have, but it does not have to be at the cost of disdaining the simplicity of Christ, which continually reminds us of our humanity.

Our theme scripture is a gentle yet firm exhortation to never exalt ourselves or deem ourselves too great for things that even the Lord Jesus applied Himself to. Never attempt to show your depth to men; instead, show it to God.

Child of God, one of the most practical ways to avoid spiritual pride and its dangers is to avoid becoming so out of touch with the mundane and seemingly shallow things of life that basic common sense no longer resonates with us.

Do not become embittered in your Christianity because, in pursuing depth, you have become so serious that simply living is hard. Whether you eat or drink, let it be to the glory of God. Hallelujah!

Prayer: My Father, I thank you for this wisdom. I thank you for the ways you teach me to pattern myself after you. I thank you for the specific purposes for which you have created me and set me apart. Let it never be said of me that I walked as a living rebuke to those who are earnestly seeking and simply living. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
