CHOOSING THE UNCONVENTIONAL
“But Jesus said, “Let her alone; she has kept this for the day of My burial. For the poor you have with you always, but Me you do not have always.”” John 12:7-8 NKJV
Mary’s act of devotion looked impractical to many. The perfume was costly. The moment seemed wasteful. Yet Jesus defended her because He saw what others missed: her love was rightly placed. She recognized the worth of His presence and responded without reserve.
This passage reminds us that good causes, even necessary ones, must never replace first love. Serving others matters, but intimacy with Christ must come first. There are moments when Jesus invites us not to do more, but to draw nearer, sit at His feet, worship, — to pour out our best simply because He is worthy.
We will always have opportunities to serve. But we must leave room to recognize sacred moments and that is by an attentive posture of the heart. Wisdom is knowing when to act, and when to adore.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, I have learnt to value your presence above all else. Guard my heart from distraction, even by good things, and help me recognize moments meant for worship. May my life be poured out in devotion to you first, and from that place, let my service flow, to the glory of your name. Amen.
