EXPERIMENTAL KNOWLEDGE OF GOD: BEYOND THE MIND (I)

“Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.” Deuteronomy 7:9 NIV

Puritan minister Thomas Watson once said: “Labor to know God not notionally only, but affectionately.”

Our theme scripture starts with the word “know” as an invitation to truly believe and be persuaded that the God of Israel is the one true God.

Yet this knowledge is not merely intellectual. Scripture does not call us to collect ideas about God but to live in the reality of who He is. There is a difference between knowing about God and knowing God Himself. One fills the mind, but the other transforms the heart.

The knowledge Moses speaks of in this passage is experiential, knowledge proven through encounter, obedience, and time. Israel was not asked to speculate about God’s faithfulness; they were called to remember it. Generation after generation had witnessed His covenant mercy, His deliverance, and His unwavering commitment to His people.

When the verse declares that “He is the faithful God,” it reminds us that the true knowledge of God always reveals His character. Child of God, as you walk with Him long enough, you begin to see that His promises are not fragile words but unshakable realities. Let this mind be in you as it was in Christ.

Praise Him.

Prayer: My Father, I thank you for this truth. Your truth moves beyond knowledge into experience as I walk with you daily. I have tested and proved your faithfulness in every season and firmly trust the covenant love you have shown to your people from generations to generations. Form in me a deeper love that gladly obeys your Word, in Jesus name. Amen.

CI.
