ANCHORED IN REST
“And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.” Matthew 24:4-6 NKJV
Jesus never hid the truth from His disciples. He told them plainly what the world would look like in the days ahead: confusion, deception, unrest, and the steady rise of voices claiming to speak for Him but carrying no resemblance to Him. He said these things to anchor them in the truth that they know.
“To take heed” is to guard your heart. Guard your mind. Guard your devotion. The same discernment Paul spoke of in yesterday’s scripture appears again in the mouth of Jesus Himself. Deception is not always loud; sometimes it is the calm voice that sounds spiritual but leads away from His truth. Alongside the warning, He gives a command to not he troubled.
Child of God, we are not called to deny the reality of chaos, but we can refuse to internalize it. Jesus never promised us a calm world, that had no issues, but He did promise peace for our heart, in the midst of chaos.
Though everything happening around us may shift, we believers’ calling remains the same: to stay watchful, rooted, discerning and most importantly, untroubled.
Praise Him.
Prayer: My Father, i thank you for keeping my heart steady in a shaking world. I thank you that you guard my mind from deception and anchor me steadily in your Word. Teach me to remain untroubled, confident that my savior remains faithful. Let my confidence rest in your voice above every other sound, staying watchful, discerning, and rooted in truth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
