AVOIDING IDLENESS
“In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we command you, brothers and sisters, to keep away from every believer who is idle and disruptive and does not live according to the teaching you received from us.” 2 Thessalonians 3:6 NIV
There is a saying that an empty mind is the devil’s workshop. True to it, idleness is good ground for gossip, slander and unwise council that might bring judgement upon you unnecessarily.
Idleness is when become lazy, indolent and indulge in meaningless activities or behavior. Paul warns against the kind of believers who are idle and do not live according to the word. An example of such a one could look like someone who doesn’t belong to a specific church, doesn’t serve in any specific way and yet has something to say about every pastor and what they are doing wrong, sometimes even has suggestions on what to improve.
You should have no part in such things child of God for such is meaningless talk. Not only do we have no right to touch the Lord’s anointed, but even when there is need there are parameters and order that must be followed. Remember the measure by which you judge is the same that shall be applied to you, and above all the fruit of idleness is too costly a price yet an avoidable one.
Praise the Lord!
Prayer: Father thank you for this wisdom. I have tamed my mouth to never speak on matters too high for me. I fill my mind with your word that I may meditate on things that bring life and not destruction. May it be said of me that I glorified you in all that I knew to be truth, in Jesus name! Amen.
