DRAWING FROM THE WELLS OF SALVATION

“The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him.” Psalms 28:7 NIV

I often hear many believers speak of the miracles, encounters and experiences of the characters of the Bible as some old fashioned myths that are irrelevant today although mighty enough to cause awe. However, the olden day believer did not even have what you have today: the indwelling of Holy Spirit.

David is a perfect depiction of how close God can draw from a man who chooses to believe. In our theme scripture, we see that though the holy spirit had not yet been given, a man with faith can have the results of faith.  He not only appropriates faith, but He takes the strength of God to be His very own and the might of God to be His defense. Charles Spurgeon put it best: Faith must come before help, but help will never be long behindhand.

We must choose to say “I am helped,” because divine assistance is offered us daily lest we draw back to fear and doubt (perdition). The greatest heart-work is not in trying to muster strength, but in learning to believe. When faith is exercised, it is multiplied. And as we draw deeply from the wells of salvation, we’ll find there is no lack in Christ.

Prayer: My Father, I thank you for this wisdom. Help me to say, “I am helped,” even before I see the answer. Stir my faith rise daily to receive the strength, joy, and protection You offer so freely. I yield my heart continually, drawing from Your well that never runs dry. In Jesus’ name, amen.
