EDIFYING DISCUSSIONS

”Don’t let them waste their time in endless discussion of myths and spiritual pedigrees. These things only lead to meaningless speculations, which don’t help people live a life of faith in God.“ 1 Timothy 1:4 NLT

Shortly after Christ ascended into heaven, there were groups of people that had believed and radically changed. There were others that called themselves teachers having made themselves experts of the law of Moses, Christ’s genealogy, how he came to be and such things.

Paul tells Timothy that such things are a waste of time and should not make an object of a true believer’s discussions. Everything there is to know about Christ is found in the Word, for He is so Himself. Anything else that may not have been penned down, the Holy Spirit has been mandated to put us to remembrance of it for you know all things(John 14:26).

The same applies to us today, we should not be found where another man is being slandered, in the talks of who fell or backslid and what led them to, who left the faith and why they did so. Child of God this is a race, and the Bible urges us to lay down every weight that easily besets us and run with patience the race set before us (Hebrews 12:1).

Such things are a weight and those that made it their object of focus, violated their consciences and shipwrecked their faith (1 Timothy 1:19). If there be any conversations among us, Paul says let them be seasoned with salt (salt is considered a preservative) and if we fellowship, let it be with psalms, spiritual songs as if making music to God in our hearts (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 4:6). Hallelujah!

Prayer: Father I thank you for this wisdom. Your word dwells richly in my heart, reminding me of things about you too great for my mind to grasp. It teaches me into righteousness and purges iniquity from my flesh! Let the meditations of my heart be pleasing unto you by your mercy and grace, in Jesus name.
