EVERY BELIEVER’S RESPONSIBILITY

“Rescue the perishing; don’t hesitate to step in and help. If you say, “Hey, that’s none of my business,” will that get you off the hook? Someone is watching you closely, you know— Someone not impressed with weak excuses.” Proverbs 24:11-12 MSG

As I have often said, we may not all be pulpit preachers, but we are all called to carry the mind of one.

Every mature believer carries the burden of seeing others set free. At the beginning of our walk with Christ, it’s natural to focus on our personal salvation, Jesus becomes our rescue, our comfort, our own. But as we grow in Him, that self-centered view should shift.

The more you understand what it means not to be your own (1 Corinthians 6:19) and to fill up in your flesh what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions (Colossians 1:24), the more you realize that you—though you may never stand behind a pulpit, have been entrusted with the holy task of rescuing others from destruction.

This looks like committing to pray for those who aren’t yet open or willing, reflecting the love of Jesus through patient acts of service because you see their eternal end, discerning moments to share your testimony of God’s faithfulness, and offering your gifts and skills to fill the gaps you see in your community. The list could go on, but the goal remains the same: souls saved for the glory of God.

Beloved, as our theme scripture clearly states—it is your business. Be deeply grieved when you see a brother or sister veering off course. And when you do see something, let the Spirit of God lead you to say or do something. The circumstances may not always be ideal or comfortable, but remember the weight of James 5:20: He who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death. Hallelujah!

Prayer: My Father, I thank You for this word. I am grateful for the privilege of being a bondservant of Christ, able to serve out of the abundance of Your goodness to me. May I never miss an opportunity to display Christ—whether in affliction or in peace. Let it be said of me that I filled up in my flesh what was lacking in the afflictions of Christ, to the glory of Your name. Amen.
