LIVING TO YOUR FULL POTENTIAL
“Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave where you are going.” Ecclesiastes 9:10 NKJV
Recently, I attended a funeral of a very wealthy and influential gentleman who lived in my city.
As people went about giving their eulogies, I realized that his wealth had nothing to do with the impact he made on people’s lives. It may have moved him toward generosity, but that was not the point. Everyone spoke of this man’s ability to listen. I can’t recall something that was commended by many who spoke as much as that. It was his posture of presence, not possessions, that marked the deepest parts of people’s memories. His influence was not in what he built or earned, but in the lives he touched simply by being fully available, sincerely engaged, and humbly attentive.
It’s easy to think that potential is tied to ambition, accomplishment, or visibility. But perhaps our greatest potential is found in doing the small things with sincerity, the unnoticed things with excellence, and the daily things with love. Ecclesiastes reminds us that our time here is brief. Death comes for all, and with it, the closing of every earthly opportunity. So whatever your hand finds to do — listening, serving, building, nurturing — do it with your might. Do it with urgency, with purpose, and with heaven in mind.
Let not our potential be buried with us. Let it be poured out, spent in love and labor for the glory of God and the good of others.
Prayer: Father, thank You for the gift of time and the privilege of purpose. Teach me not to measure my potential by worldly standards but by faithful obedience to what You’ve placed in my hands. Help me to be present, to listen, to serve, and to love with intention. May my life echo beyond possessions and achievements, leaving a legacy that reflects Your grace, In Jesus’ name, amen.
