OF COMPLETE FREEDOM
“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”
Galatians 5:1 NIV
Christ did not purchase our freedom with His blood for us to live as though we are still in chains. The cross was not a temporary reprieve from bondage but the eternal declaration that sin, shame, and death have no claim on us. Unfortunately, many people, out of habit, religion or fear, return to the very yokes He shattered.
Sometimes it is guilt from and lies from the enemy attempting us to slip into unbelief. Other times it is legalism, believing our worth before God rests on how perfectly we perform, rather than on Christ’s perfect work. And sometimes, it is simply the pull of sin itself, luring us back into patterns that once enslaved us.
But Paul’s exhortation is clear: Stand firm. Freedom is not maintained by willpower but by continually resting in the finished work of Jesus. To stand firm is to cling to His promises, to let His Spirit remind us daily that we are children of God, not captives of the past. This freedom is not the license to live as we please, but the power to live as we were created, to walk in holiness, peace, and joy, looking unto Jesus and not the chains that once defined us.
Christ’s freedom is a calling. It is a daily choice to walk with Him, resist the lies that would drag us back, and trust that His grace is greater than every weight that tries to bind us.
Prayer: My Father, I thank You for setting me free by Your blood. Teach me to walk in the freedom You purchased and to stand firm when the enemy tempts me to return to old habits. Remind me that I am Yours, not by merit but by grace, and that Your Spirit empowers me to live as one who is free indeed. Strengthen my heart to resist every yoke of fear, shame, or sin, and to rest fully in my savior and Lord. Amen.
