OF GODLESS CHATTER

“Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly.”
2 Timothy 2:16 NIV

Many theological scholars define the ‘godless chatter’ in our theme scripture as speech that is empty of divine truth and treats sacred matters casually or irreverently.

Every conversation, no matter how spiritual it may sound, if it lacks truth and biblical soundness, it lacks gospel reverence. You may wonder, are people who don’t talk about God all the time just sinning? Not really. The godless chatter is really about arguments that are bent on denying God, and as Psalm 14:1 says: the fool denies God in his heart.

Child of God, when we allow the holy spirit to tame us, we notice that our language is conscious of God, our conversations alike, and an even greater consecration is to serve the Lord with our minds too (Romans 7:25). We have access to the wisdom of God, through His indwelling Holy Spirit, live and act like it. Praise God.

Prayer: My Father, I thank you for this word. I thank you for your spirit that tames me and guides me into all truth. Help me to feel after you in all my dealings, that I may speak your oracles and stir the hearts of those around me to the affections of heaven. I pray this in the name of Jesus, amen!
