OF GOD’S IMMUTABILITY (II)
“The counsel of the Lord stands forever, The plans of His heart to all generations.” Psalms 33:11 NKJV
If God does not change in His nature, then neither does He change in His purposes.
What appears to us as movement in God is often the unfolding of what He has eternally willed. When Saul shifted from obedience to rebellion, he did not alter God’s decree, but he altered his own standing before an unchanging God.
The same sun that softens wax hardens clay. The difference is not in the sun, but in the substance it touches. So it is with the Lord. His holiness remains constant, his justice pure and his mercy available. Yet how we experience Him depends on whether we walk in surrender or resistance.
Immutability, then, is not merely a theological attribute to admire, it is a foundation to stand on. Because God does not change: his warnings are serious, his promises are reliable and his covenant in Christ is secure.
Saul lost a kingdom because he treated obedience lightly. But we gain an eternal Kingdom because Christ obeyed perfectly in our place. Where the first king faltered, the greater King stood firm.
Take comfort in God’s faithfulness which does not fluctuate with your emotions. But take heed and remember that holiness does not alter to accommodate disobedience. Repent quickly when you stray, obey swiftly when He speaks and rest confidently in what He has promised.
Prayer: My Father, I thank you for your steadfast and unchanging love. I yield my heart that it may not drift in casual obedience. I am anchored in reverent trust and taught to respond quickly to counsel and rest fully in Christ’s finished work. Because you do not change, I can build my life upon you with confidence, in Jesus name. Amen.
