OF GROWING IN CHRIST
“Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” James 1:4 NIV
Whether we are learning a lesson or unlearning something unsound, God does not waste pain, joy, trials or even suffering.
We must come to the understanding that God is interested in the process. The wealth at the end, the rejoicing, the success, the breakthrough — all that we consider to be the ultimate goal, is only accessory.
Living with eternity in mind suggests that what He is producing in us today will not just enable us to live peacefully in heaven, but helps us start now, when it requires an exercise of the will and breeds an extraordinary appreciation when there will be no more sorrow or pain. So instead of rushing the season, we must lean into it. Instead of despising the slow, quiet work of God in the shadows of our lives, we must embrace it with trust. He is crafting something that time cannot erode, character that reflects Christ, patience that perseveres, and faith that endures.
The truth is, growth hurts but not as much as staying spiritually stagnant. And when the work is done, we won’t just be blessed but we’ll be whole.
Prayer: My Father, I thank you for this word. You have taught me to love the process as much as the promise. Give me grace to submit to Your refining hand, knowing that You are shaping me with eternity in mind. Let perseverance have its perfect work in me, that I may be complete in Christ. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
