OF KNOWING ALL THINGS

“But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things.” I John 2:20 NKJV

There are two dimensions of spiritual knowledge: one is progressive, the other perfect and complete.

Progressive knowledge unfolds through our lived experience with God—through obedience, suffering, revelation, and spiritual formation. This is the knowledge that grows as we walk with Christ daily. In contrast, perfect knowledge is inherited, a spiritual endowment received the moment we are united with Christ. It is not earned but gifted by grace through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

When John writes, “you know all things,” he is not speaking metaphorically. He is declaring a spiritual reality. The anointing we receive from the Holy One brings us into full participation in divine truth. In this sense, we “know all things” not because of human intellect, but because the Spirit of truth abides in us (John 16:13). This knowledge does not puff up, for it flows from the humility of Christ. The Spirit dwells only in those who have died to self. Therefore, the wisdom we carry under the anointing is never disorderly, boastful, or out of alignment with God’s character. It functions in harmony with the Spirit’s fruit and the mind of Christ.

This is the paradox of kingdom knowledge: though we know all things in Him, we live ever dependent on Him. Though we are seated with Christ in heavenly places, we daily bow our knees in reverent submission.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, thank You for the anointing that teaches and leads me into all truth. Let the knowledge I have in You remain pure, never inflated by pride, never out of step with Your heart. Help me to walk in the humility of Christ, always growing, always yielding, always trusting. May my life testify that true knowledge is found in knowing You. Amen.
