OF SEARED CONCSIENCES (II)

“Asa then took the silver and gold out of the treasuries of the Lord’s temple and of his own palace and sent it to Ben-Hadad king of Aram, who was ruling in Damascus. “Let there be a treaty between me and you,” he said, “as there was between my father and your father. See, I am sending you silver and gold. Now break your treaty with Baasha king of Israel so he will withdraw from me.” 2 Chronicles 16:2-3 NIV

After Asa’s victory, he began relying on his own wisdom instead of seeking God.

In our theme scripture, we see him turning to a foreign king for help without consulting the Lord first.  Not only did he form an alliance with the enemy, but he also boasted in his own wisdom and rejected the prophet who rebuked him.

This story teaches us two key lessons: (1) Success in an endeavor doesn’t guarantee God’s approval, and (2) alliances made in pride or ignorance can lead us off course. Child of God don’t become too familiar with your Father that you lose reverence for Him.

Like David, who sought God’s guidance in every opportunity, may it be said of you that you always seek His approval in all things.

Prayer: Father, I thank you for this wisdom. Your thoughts are far greater than my own, and I strive to maintain a broken spirit before you for only then can you fill it. It shall be said of me that you stood with for I was upright in heart, in Jesus name. Amen!
