OF STAYING THE COURSE

“But I will leave within you the meek and humble. The remnant of Israel will trust in the name of the Lord. They will do no wrong; they will tell no lies. A deceitful tongue will not be found in their mouths. They will eat and lie down and no one will make them afraid.” Zephaniah 3:12-13 NIV

The final letter of Zephaniah is a prophetic word to Jerusalem after the judgements of God had been executed.

The latter part however speaks of the remnant’s restoration, who by reason of meekness and humility of spirit were spared because their hope is only in God. “They will do no wrong… they will tell no lies.” This isn’t just moral uprightness, it is the fruit of purification. God is not merely interested in preserving a people, but in forming a holy people, shaped by truth, free from deceit, walking in integrity.

It is a people whose speech reflects a sanctified heart, and of whose the divine purging’s outcome is a peaceful land. This is a promise that still counts for us today. As followers of Christ, we are called to be that remnant, a people not swept up by the patterns of this world, but set apart in holiness, honesty, and humility. And in doing so, we rest under His covering, without fear. Let us be content to be small in the eyes of men if it means being found faithful before God.

Prayer: My Father, I thank you for this blessing. Purge my lips from deceit and my heart from fear, and Help me to walk in truth and rest in Your covering. It will be said of me that my life reflects the peace of one who knows You, trusts You, and is being refined by You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
