OF THE NEW NATURE
“But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin. No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.” 1 John 3:5-6 NIV
Conversations and confessions are more than mere words; they are exchanges in the spirit realm. This means we must be careful about what we engage in, lest we open ourselves to influences we do not desire in that realm.
With that in mind, the opposite is also true: confessing and speaking what is right brings life and imparts the same in those who practice it. This is why Scripture emphasizes that life and death are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit (Proverbs 18:21). As children of God, born again by water and Spirit, it is an error to continue referring to yourself as a “sinner.” This is not because you have ceased to sin entirely or are claiming perfection by your own works, but because the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus was both complete and sufficient.
Hebrews 10:14 reminds us that we are “made perfect forever” even as we are “being made holy.” Though you may still see sin attempting to creep into your members, what separates you from those without Christ is this: you neither plan to sin, are inclined to it, nor intend to pursue it. That part of you—the part being continually refined—is the evidence of His sanctifying work.
So let this be clear: we were sinners, saved by grace. But that is no longer our identity. Therefore, in false humility or misguided piety, do not let your lips dishonor the Christ in you, your hope of glory, by calling yourself a sinner or anything less than what Scripture declares you to be. Selah.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, I thank You for making me new through Your sacrifice and for calling me righteous in You. Help me to guard my words so they align with Your truth and not with the lies of the enemy. Teach me to live in the reality of the new nature You have given me, walking in holiness while resting in Your finished work. May my life and confession always reflect Your glory, in Jesus name, Amen!
