ON SPIRITUAL FATHERHOOD (I)
“Even if you had ten thousand guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel.” 1 Corinthians 4:15 NIV
One of the most misunderstood concepts in Christian communities, particularly within evangelical circles, is spiritual fatherhood (which I’ll use here to refer to both mothers and fathers in this series).
Both the Old and New Testaments offer numerous examples of father-son relationships, and in them, we see a clear depiction of the nature and character of those assigned this role. Our theme scripture reminds us that while many can teach or lead others in the faith, true spiritual fatherhood goes beyond that—it involves a deeper, more personal investment in the lives of those entrusted to you, helping them grow in their relationship with God.
Three key aspects of this grace are: nurturing and guidance, sacrificial love, and discipleship. As children of God, these gifts are available to you in due time. However, it is crucial to understand that, just as you cannot choose your biological parents, you cannot choose your spiritual covering apart from God. The Lord knows the hearts of men better than anyone, and only God Himself can orchestrate such placements.
May the eyes of our understanding be enlightened as we dive deeper into this precious truth.
Prayer: Father, I thank You for Your endless grace and mercy. I praise You for granting us the wisdom and humility to understand our positioning in such a time as this. I ask that, for every seeking heart among us, You would minister to each according to their need and Your purpose for their lives. I trust that with this understanding will come growth, glory, and excellence, in Jesus’ name. Amen!
CI.
