RIGHTFUL ESTIMATE OF SELF

“For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.” Romans 12:3 NIV

There is no one human that is the same make as the other. God created each one of us in unique ways, and by His grace we ought to be distinctive in the way we think.

Paul’s exhortation is not to think low of yourself, but not to overestimate yourself. In view of God’s mercies, we ought not to elevate our gifts or achievements as the basis for our value, not to think of ourselves better than others.

Child of God your self evaluation should be tied to your faith. The second portion of our theme scripture is that faith was distributed to us all, not by reason of worth or status, but by sheer mercy. This truth humbles us and steadies us.

It keeps us from pride when we are strong and from despair when we are weak. A rightful estimate of self begins and ends with grace. Praise God.

Prayer: My Father, I thank you for this truth. I thank you for your sheer mercy and grace toward me. I thank you for the gift of Christ, that so well modeled royalty and humility could coexist. I yield to your spirit in me to transform my sight, that I may feel after you and worship you in love and in humility, even in my thoughts toward self and others. May it be said of me that I reflected the christlike attitude in all my dealings, in Jesus name. Amen.
