STUDIOUSNESS AMONG THE SAINTS

“Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. As a result, many of them believed, as did also a number of prominent Greek women and many Greek men.” Acts 17:11-12 NIV

One of the things that has weakened the church of Jesus Christ in our dispensation is a growing lack of curiosity and diligence in studying the Word of God.

Scripture is the primary channel through which God reveals His character and nature. While it is good and necessary to be part of a local church and to sit under sound teaching, we must remember that our teachers are still human and therefore capable of error.

The Word itself is incapable of deceiving us or leading us astray—but men can. How, then, would we discern misinterpretation or error if we do not study the Scriptures for ourselves?

In our theme passage, the Bereans set an example that remains relevant across generations. Their daily examination of Scripture not only grounded them in truth but strengthened their confidence in what they believed.

This kind of studious faith builds personal conviction and equips us to share the gospel faithfully with others, thereby responding rightly to the Lord’s commission. May it be said of you that you were faithful in studying and showing yourself approved.

Prayer: My Father, I thank you for your precious word. We are tamed against spiritual laziness and shallow understanding. We pray for discipline to search the scriptures daily as your truth anchors our faith, sharpen our discernment, and embolden us to share what we have come to know and believe. Let your Word dwell richly in us, producing lives that honor you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
