THE BEGINNING OF ALL WISDOM
“Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in obedience to him. You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours. Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table. Yes, this will be the blessing for the man who fears the Lord.” Psalms 128:1-4 NIV
In Proverbs 9:10, the Bible tells us that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of all wisdom. This is not about terrific judgement kind of fear, but a reverence that stems from loving one whom you willfully obey and believe.
Our theme passage in Psalm 128 reveals an even richer layer of truth: the ripple effect of a life lived in the fear of God. If you have walked in obedience to Him for any length of time, you know how much in life hinges on that obedience. One step of trust paves the way for the next. One act of faith unlocks another blessing. Each yielded moment opens the floodgates for God to fulfill His will in your life.
C. S. Lewis once observed that those who are bad know little about badness, because they always give in. In the same way, those who refuse to submit to God’s counsel, no matter how unpopular or unconventional it may seem—never truly taste the fullness of the abundance David describes here.
Child of God, remember this: God is infinite, and His wisdom surpasses our own. His boundaries are never to bind us, but to set us free. Human limitations confine, but God’s ways can be trusted without reservation. The fear of the Lord brings blessing to your labor, fruitfulness to your household, and covering over your children and generations to come.
In all that you do, strive to obey God. Hallelujah!
Prayer: My Father, I thank you for this wisdom. I joyfully live in reverent-awe and love for you. As a reward, your love constrains me, your spirit convicts and aligns me, through faith — I am enabled to do the works which are of My Father, to the glory of your name. Amen!
