THE FAITHFULNESS OF GOD

“What if some were unfaithful? Will their unfaithfulness nullify God’s faithfulness? Not at all! Let God be true, and every human being a liar. As it is written: “So that you may be proved right when you speak and prevail when you judge.” Romans 3:3-4 NIV

There is a tension we all must face in this life: the reality that people will fail us, even those who claim to represent God.

It’s easy, after being disappointed by someone’s sin, to start doubting the truth they once preached. “If they turned away, maybe this isn’t real,” we think. But Paul confronts this head-on: What if some were unfaithful? Does that cancel out God’s faithfulness? He answers with a resounding No! God’s character is not tied to the inconsistency of man. God does not waver. His promises are not revoked when people rebel. His truth does not depend on our agreement, and His righteousness is not diminished by our unrighteousness.

If every human being turned away, God would still be just as holy, just as true, and just as faithful. He remains the same yesterday, today, and forever. This passage also gives us a subtle warning: do not be too quick to let someone’s failure turn your heart cold toward the Lord. We must learn to separate the unfaithfulness of people from the unwavering faithfulness of God. Every leader, parent, friend, or church can fall short. But Christ does not.

When our faith is shaken by human failure, it is not time to throw away the truth. It is time to anchor ourselves more deeply in it.

Prayer: My Father, when I see others fall, remind me that You do not change. Help me not to place my trust in people, but in Your unshakable Word. When doubt tries to creep in through disappointment, let the truth that You are always faithful drive it out. Prove Yourself true in my heart again and again, and teach me to rest in Your constancy. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
