THE FOOD OF THE SPIRIT

“One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.””Luke 11:1 NIV

In John 4:32, Jesus told His disciples, who were concerned that He had not eaten, “I have food to eat that you know nothing about.”

This food was what nourished the Son of God. And if His life now dwells in you, that same life requires nourishment in you as well. Prayer is that food.

Too often, our ideas about prayer are shaped more by culture than by Scripture. We reduce it to a way of getting things from God, instead of what it truly is: the means by which the life of the Son in us is fed, strengthened, and empowered to transform the very circumstances we worry about.

Child of God, the true purpose of prayer is to know God Himself. As one teacher wisely said, “God has established prayer so that, on the basis of redemption, it changes how a person looks at things.” This is the mark of the most redeemed: a transformed outlook on things. For true redemption is not simply a change of situation, but a change of vision.

Prayer: My Father, I thank you for this truth. I thank You for the gift of prayer not as a means to chase after things, but as the food that nourishes Your life within me. I seek You for who You are, and by your spirit, prayer changes how I see and aligns my heart with Yours. May I live in the freedom of true redemption, where vision is transformed by knowing You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
