THE GOD WHO CAN BE SOUGHT AND BE FOUND

“Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
Jeremiah 29:12-13 NIV

Archbishop Benson Idahosa once said: “I have never heard any man say Lord help me, and God did not help them.”

In its simplicity, that is a very powerful statement that many don’t always think of. Our theme scripture is a portion from a series of promises to Israel, a letter to the exiles filled with instructions as well as God’s commitment to watch out for His own. In there He tells them that if they seek Him with all their hearts they will find Him.

What does seeking Him with one’s whole heart look like? In ancient times, seeking God was not a part-time pursuit. It meant orienting every desire, affection, and decision toward Him. To have a “divided heart” (Hosea 10:2) was considered spiritual adultery.

Today, there are more distractions than there possibly have been in human history— convenience, noise, and endless possibilities. To seek God with one’s whole heart is a devotion, a consistent choice of the will. It is costly, and one must be intentional. It means choosing Him over comfort, quieting the competing voices, and making His presence the pursuit above all else.

And here lies the beauty: He has bound Himself by promise: when we truly seek Him, we will surely find Him.

Prayer: My Lord, I thank You for being a God who can be sought and found. In spite of the distractions, my heart is drawn to You in undivided devotion. I am taught of your spirit to seek You with sincerity and perseverance. I am reminded daily that You delight to be found by those who call on Your Name. May my life reflect this pursuit now and forevermore, In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
