THE HEART FOR MINISTRY

“God can testify how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:8 NIV

No one should attempt to do ministry if they do not have a heart for people.

Some cultures that favor individualism tend to care only for their direct families, sometimes wouldn’t even hesitate to cut them off too if they have unresolved conflict. Other cultures that favor collectivism may turn a blind eye to many vices for the sake of unity and harmony in society.

Kingdom culture however is nothing like either of those mentioned above. The Lord commands a blessing where there is true unity, encourages forgiving and forgetting the wrongs done unto you as He forgets those you commit yourself. The way of the kingdom is seventy times seventy seven, petitions for our enemies and thinking of others above self.

It may not be the popular way but it does not make it any less true. As Paul writes in our theme scripture, no man should attempt to lead others in the ways of the spirit except they have understood the affections of Christ and will freely extend the latter as they have received it too.

Prayer: My Father, I thank you for this truth. Let your light so shine in me that those who come near will testify of your goodness. By your spirit, remind me of the grace that has been showed me and incline my affections to model the way of my master and Lord, to the glory of your name. Amen!
