THE MULTITUDE OF DANGERS IN PRIDE

“See, the enemy is puffed up; his desires are not upright— but the righteous person will live by his faithfulness—”
Habakkuk 2:4 NIV

One of the few things Scripture declares that God actively “resists” is pride. It is listed among the abominations to Him because pride places us on a throne we were never meant to sit on. It blinds us to our dependence on God and subtly persuades us that we can stand on our own.

Every human being wrestles with pride to some degree. There is a natural sense of satisfaction when we work hard, achieve a goal, or celebrate the people we love. In itself, this isn’t inherently sinful. The danger comes when pride is not tamed by the Holy Spirit, when we forget the Source of our strength and begin to think more highly of ourselves than we ought.

The difference between a child of God and a non-believer is not the absence of pride but the awareness of grace. We remember that “every good gift and every perfect gift is from above” (James 1:17) and that our achievements are ultimately for the glory of God, not for our self-exaltation.

When Christ is Lord and Savior, everything in us that could stir ungodly boasting is laid at His feet. We give Him the credit, not merely as a formality, but as a safeguard for our hearts. By doing so, we remain free from the snare of pride and live by faith, acknowledging that without Him, we can do nothing.

Prayer: My Father, thank you for this wisdom. I yield my heart to you that you may protect me from the snare of pride. Help me to see every good thing as a gift from Your hand, and teach me to boast only in You. May my life and achievements point to Your glory, in Jesus name. Amen.
