THE MYSTERY OF CHRIST
“This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus.” Ephesians 3:6 NIV
The gospel unveils one of the most breathtaking mysteries ever hidden in the heart of God: that those who were once far off are now united with Israel as fellow heirs, members of one body, and sharers together in the promise of Christ.
Israel, the chosen people of God, was set apart not merely for privilege but to display to the world what it meant to be known, loved, and adopted by the Living God. Yet over time, that chosenness sometimes led to pride and exclusivity. They cherished the blessing, but often forgot the purpose— that through them, all nations would be blessed (Genesis 12:3).
Meanwhile, the Gentiles looked upon Israel with disdain, sometimes from jealousy or hatred and often sought to enslave, oppose, or erase them. Two groups, locked in hostility, each blind to the greater story God was writing. But in Christ, the dividing wall crumbled (Ephesians 2:14). What both groups failed to see was that their histories were shadows pointing toward a greater truth: God’s eternal plan was never to elevate one nation above another, but to reconcile both Jew and Gentile into one new humanity through the cross. Israel would be reminded that their chosenness was purely by grace, not merit.
The Gentiles, once strangers and outsiders, would be grafted into sonship, adopted into the family of God by sheer mercy (Romans 11:17–18). Child of God, this is our forte: we are no longer strangers, but a children, seated at the same table, clothed in the same righteousness, sharing in the same eternal promises as Christ. Selah!
Prayer: My Father, I thank you for the mystery revealed in Christ. I am grateful for the gift of sonship in which I boast knowing that you keep all that’s committed to you until the day of Christ. Help me to never withhold from others what I have received by sheer mercy, that your Kingdom may invade earth as is in heaven — in Jesus’ name, Amen.
