THINGS NOT TO BE TAUGHT

“They must be silenced, because they are disrupting whole households by teaching things they ought not to teach—and that for the sake of dishonest gain.” Titus 1:11 NIV

The Bible warns us repeatedly about guarding what we expose our eyes and ears to.

Many who’ve struggled with strongholds like lust, will testify that it all began with something they saw or heard, hence the eyes and ears often being referred to as gates. The enemy rarely barges in as many think; instead, he subtly permeates culture through these gates, through a vision cast in a movie, a whisper embedded in a song, or an idea woven into a conversation until what is wicked begins to feel normal, even noble.

Paul speaks prophetically here, warning that there are some things that are simply not to be taught. This doesn’t apply only to false doctrine in the pulpit, but to every whisper of deception that creeps into homes, schools, relationships, and hearts. When entertainment becomes indoctrination and catchy songs become catechisms of compromise, we must be alert. The greatest threats to holiness often come dressed in charisma and creativity, bypassing discernment and appealing to the flesh. And like leaven, they spread silently, corrupting the whole batch. This is why Paul doesn’t suggest moderation or dialogue. He says such voices must be silenced.

Child of God, you are a steward of your home, your ears, and your influence. You must learn to guard these gates rejecting not just obvious lies, but the subtle, slow distortions that twist truth. This is not a fear-driven living, but wisdom-fueled vigilance. For the sake of our families, our churches, and our future, may we have the courage to shut down what should never be taught and to boldly cling to what must never be forgotten: the pure, unchanging truth of God’s Word through which everything can be tested and proved.

Prayer: My Father, I thank you for this truth. My heart is trained to love what you love and hate what grieves you. Teach me to guard my eyes and ears with holy discernment. Help me to be vigilant over what influences my heart and my home. Where I have unknowingly allowed false ideas or worldly messages to take root, reveal them and uproot them by Your truth. Fill me with wisdom to recognize what should never be taught, and with boldness to uphold Your Word in love, in Jesus’ name, amen.
