THINKING OF OTHERS
“Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.” Philippians 2:3-4 NLT
Thinking of others before self is a form of humility that can only spring from a heart that is yielded and satisfied in Christ.
We are living in a time where selfishness is painted as righteousness, self-care, or even mindfulness. Psychology, though instrumentally contributing to healing emotionally destructive behavior among people; has also given trauma language to certain behaviors that are contrary to scripture.
The problem with calling everything that is difficult or challenging trauma, is that it gives way to abdicate any responsibility to be accountable, sanctified or built up in persistence. Romans 5:3 tells us that trials help us develop endurance, endurance develops strength of character and character strengthens our hope or salvation.
Certain challenges are neither meant to be avoided, shunned or considered trauma. People are difficult to live with because sin is still present in our midst, but relationships with one another are the furnace through which we become edified.
We ought to take every tools made available to us with moderation and always weigh it against scriptural truth. 1 Corinthians 10:13 assures us that there is no temptation that will come to us without God having tested its severity against our ability to concur it.
You ought to choose to believe and trust His word, over all the noise, all the while letting love reign in your heart and through your actions. Praise God.
Prayer: My Father, I thank you for this wisdom. I thank you for your word that trains me to discern what is for my edification and what is to be dealt with. I invite your spirit daily, to teach me, search me, and convict me accordingly. May it be said of me that I stewarded your wisdom well, to the glory of your name. Amen!
