TO BE BLESSED (VI)
“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.” Matthew 5:8 NIV
The Bible often defines the heart as the seat of human emotions. Emotions in their natural state, are the reason the heart is deceitful and wicked in all its ways (Jeremiah 17:9).
Just as mud water may seem clean at the surface until it is stirred, so does the heart carry in itself residue of the fleshly lusts, and such is the reason we must strive to keep it pure and undefiled.
How does one keep their hearts pure then if we have no control over it you may ask? The thoughts and meditations you entertain. Jesus tells us that it is not what goes into the mouth that defiles the heart, but what comes out (Matthew 15:11). What comes out of one’s mouth indicates what has been indulged upon in the heart.
Child of God, the soul’s highest joy is to see God—and this is the blessed promise reserved for the pure in heart. Let there be no defilement in your meditations, for therein lies the grace to behold Him.
Prayer: My Father, thank you for this wisdom. May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be pleasing to you, my rock and my Redeemer, in Jesus name. Amen!
