TO BE CHILDREN OF LIGHT
“For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light” Ephesians 5:8 NKJV
In our theme scripture, the apostle makes no distinctions that insinuate we were in darkness, but that we were darkness itself. Sin had so thoroughly shaped our identity that it defined our very existence. Apart from Christ, we were blind, and lost.
The message of the Gospel however is that our identity was changed not just in name but in its very essence that we have a new Christ-like core. We are no longer merely people who see the light, we are light in the Lord. What we once were in sin is no more, crucified with Christ. What we now are is a reflection of Him, the true Light who shines in the darkness and cannot be overcome.
This is not only a change of status but a call to a new way of living, to walk as children of light. Light has a way of exposing what is hidden, revealing truth, and bringing life where there is death. To walk as children of light means allowing God’s Spirit to illuminate our choices, our relationships, and our desires. It means refusing to return to the shadows of our old identity, but instead letting the brilliance of Christ shine through us.
It is from such affirmations that we know we cannot sin willfully no more. The world may still be dark, but we are no longer defined by it. Our lives are to testify to the One who called us out of darkness into His marvelous light. Hallelujah!
Prayer: My Father, I thank you for this truth. I thank you for bringing me out of darkness and making me light in You. I thank you for teaching me to walk as a child of light, reflecting your purity, truth, and love in a world still longing for hope. Let my life shine with the radiance of Christ, that others may see your glory and be drawn to you, in Jesus name, Amen.
