TRUSTING THE ALL KNOWING GOD

“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.”
Psalms 20:7 NIV

In ancient times, chariots and horses were the apex of military might. Any king who possessed both in great numbers was feared and honored among his peers, for these represented the most advanced technology available.

An ancient Hebrew listener would have understood this passage as a deliberate confrontation between the strongest visible human power of the world and the invisible power of Israel’s God.

As children of God, the Israelites were familiar with the Egyptians’ dependence on horses and military prowess. They understood that a warning such as the psalmist’s was meant to discourage reliance on self-sufficiency or human might, lest one altogether forsake the Lord.

This is not far removed from our reality today. We have a plethora of resources at our fingertips—thousands of options and alternatives to what once seemed a one-way street. Even so, the God of yesterday is the same today and forever, and those who trust in Him with all their hearts will not be put to shame.

Let this reality be so firmly set in your heart and mind that you are not moved by shifting shadows. Praise Him!

Prayer: My Father, I thank You for this truth. I have seen You turn lives around, give meaning to what men have shunned, honor the humble, and resist the proud. I have many testimonies that in all things You can be trusted. Bring my mind to remembrance when I forget, and lead me in the path that the fowl knows not. To You belong all glory, honor, and praise, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
