UNCOMPROMISING FAITH

“Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword… Matthew 10:34-36 NIV

A story is given of a tribesmen who watched his entire family be slaughtered because he decided to follow Christ.

After a Welsch missionary preached the Gospel in India against all odds, the first tribesmen to follow Christ was persecuted by the tribe’s chief. They brought him before the entire village and told him they would kill his kids if he did not denounce Christ and these were his first words: I have decided to follow Jesus. No turning back!

They killed his sons and daughters before his eyes assuming he would give in. They pulled his wife and said surely if we kill her he will give in, and to that he said: though none go with me I still will follow, no turning back.

Finally they got to him, and they said you choose Jesus or die and his final words were: the cross before me and the world behind me. No turning back! The tribesman’s final words have long become the timeless hymn “I have decided to follow Jesus” and because of his dedication, many came to Christ, even the chief who executed him.

Child of God, let us strive for the love of God to abide ever so strong in our hearts that it completely absolves the love of the world and make us salt to the bystanders. Praise God!

Prayer: Father I thank you for this word. I hold in remembrance the gift of your son on a cross that I may share into His resurrection. It shall be said of me that I stored my treasures where moth and rust won’t reach, in Jesus’ name. Amen!
