AVOIDING FORGETFULNESS (II)

”When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches. Because You have been my help, Therefore in the shadow of Your wings I will rejoice. My soul follows close behind You; Your right hand upholds me.“Psalms 63:6-8 NKJV

Meditation, gratitude and documentation or otherwise called journaling are two important aspects of combatting forgetfulness, which often times leads to sinning against God.

The children of Israel are a good example of this forgetfulness. No sooner had they crossed through the sea walking on dry ground, with water as a firmament between them and their enemies, they almost cursed their leader because they were thirsty and missing the onions and leaks they left in Egypt (Exodus 15 &16). They were forgetting quickly because they did not keep a posture of trust and gratitude

In the book of Esther 6, a story is given also of the king staying awake and being prompted to read the book of chronicles of things that had happened in his kingdom. This led to honoring Mordecai who had been forgotten yet having saved the life of the king by giving meaningful and timely information. Had this not been recorded, it would have stayed forgotten.

In our theme scripture, David speaks of meditating on the Lord and what He had done for him and using this as a way of encouraging himself in the unchanging God who was perfectly able to deliver him from all
his enemies as He always did.

Child of God, if the enemy cannot get you to curse God, he will get you to forget what He has done for you so that your trust in what He is yet to do may dwindle. Be radical about keeping record of every small and big things, write down dates and times, and review these precepts as often as you can.

There is nothing that centers you in the place of trusting God like remembrance. Praise God!

Prayer: Father I thank you for this truth. I thank you that my mind is sane and rejoices in meditating on all you have done and because I am not forgetful, my trust in you is firm and complete. I put my thoughts under submission, and I meditate on things noble, true, praiseworthy, pure and of good report. It is by your mercy that what concerns me is ever made perfect, through Christ Jesus. Amen!
