ANXIOUS FOR NOTHING
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:6-7 NIV
One of the recurring things Jesus promises to give is peace. Peace is not material, neither is it quantifiable, but it has the power to settle a man’s heart into stillness even when the world is crumbling.
It is no surprise then that peace is very connected to the patterns of our thought life because those flow from the heart and permeate the mind. In our theme verse, Paul doesn’t merely instruct us to pretend we aren’t worried, but he commands us two ways to truly stay peaceful: be grateful and offer your petitions and prayers to God.
By training ourselves to master these things, he assures us that the peace of God, the one that is not like the world gives (John 14:27), will guard our hearts and minds. The term guard as used in this passage is an imagery of a military garrison; consequently Paul says the peace of God that keeps our minds on Christ is as strong and powerful as a permanent military post that is invincible.
Child of God, let therefore gratitude and prayerfulness never leave your lips. Hallelujah!
Prayer: Father, I thank you. I thank you for this truth, and the peace that it brings to my heart. I thank the for your grace and mercy that surround me and permit me to do hard things with ease. I thank you for your spirit that opens my mind to divine possibilities. May it be said of me that I lived a life that demonstrated my confidence in you, in Jesus name. Amen!
