AVOIDING DISTRACTION

“As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain people not to teach false doctrines any longer or to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. Such things promote controversial speculations rather than advancing God’s work—which is by faith.” 1 Timothy 1:3-4 NIV

The church in Ephesus was known for worshipping mythological goddesses and gods, knowledge and philosophies that do not glorify God.

So as Paul instructs Timothy, he is conscious of the fact that even if these people had believed in Jesus they had a renewal of the mind to undergo as they were being transformed by the new birth through faith and sound teaching (Romans 12:2). Consequently, it was not strange that he perceived it wouldn’t take too much before Jesus Christ becomes just another myth and genealogy if there is no solid and sound teaching being executed by men who understood the way of Christ.

We see the same schemes of the enemy replicating in the body Christ of today where though it may not be myths and endless genealogies, there are many distractions in fashion, entertainment, prominence and affluence that are promoting controversial speculations than advancing the work of God. This is why child of God, you ought to be both sensitive and sincere with the Holy Spirit that you may be able to discern what is of God. The spirit of the Lord at work in us KNOWS truth, recognizes truth and is awakened to it.

When your “spiritual” beliefs minister most to your comforts than to the nature of a citizen of heaven, be careful and examine if there is no deception in what you consider truth. His word is alive and active and cannot go against his nature. Hallelujah!

Prayer: Father I thank you for this wisdom. I am awakened and learned in the ways of the spirit because you sanctify me daily by your word. I am attuned to the holy spirit who is my teacher and helper and have resolved in my heart to honor and trust his lead, to the glory of your name. Amen!
