DEPENDABLE GOD
“When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed.” James 1:13-14 NIV
In the gospel of John, Jesus makes a statement that dissolves any forms of doubt or ambiguity concerning the character and nature of God: I am the way, the truth and the life.
I want to focus primarily on the aspect of God as ‘truth’. What makes truth special first is (1) it is unchanging (2) accurate (3) based in fact and reality (4) and it reveals Christ. Many times when christians are looking for “the will of God” in defining moments or decisions such as a career, education, who to marry, business deals to venture in, and so on, the enemy prowling seeking to devour will also present counterfeits of each that may appear as light.
However, what consists of truth as it touches the nature of God cannot contain error, does not add shame or sorrow, does not need to manipulate anyone, does not come as a temptation and certainly does not go against the Word of God. In our theme scripture, the apostle brings this point home by showing us that it is the fleshly/ evil desires which present a foothold to be tempted by the enemy.
It is for this reason that when you child of God, find yourself at these junctions in life your search of His will should always be weighed within the constraints of truth as defined above. God cannot deny Himself, nor contradict Himself. When you find fault in your decisions, be humble enough to confess that you missed it and seek for His grace and mercy to lead you in the right path. Hallelujah!
Prayer: Father I thank you for this wisdom. I thank you for the tremendous privilege it is to carry your spirit in me, which reveals to me who you are in all my endeavors. I resolve daily to keep a soft and yielded heart that I may never hinder his gentle and transformative work in me. I know how to discern what disguises itself as light for I know the truth and it has set me free, in Jesus mighty name. Amen!
