GOD IS A FAIR AND JUST JUDGE

“Do not take a pair of millstones—not even the upper one—as security for a debt, because that would be taking a person’s livelihood as security.” Deuteronomy 24:6 NIV

A millstone was an ancient tool used for grinding grain into flour, which was a daily necessity in Israelite households. Its function was to grind grain, producing flour — the staple for bread. In ancient Israel, bread was central to daily life. Consequently, the millstone represented sustenance, livelihood, and provision.

In our theme scripture, the Lord forbids that any man should punish another by withholding any part of their millstone, because that would be taking away his very means of survival. God, in His righteousness, demonstrates that His justice is not cold or transactional, but merciful and protective of human dignity. His laws were meant to uphold compassion, ensuring that no one’s basic needs were sacrificed at the altar of another’s gain.

Child of God, this is a reminder that our God is not partial in judgment. He cares for the vulnerable and upholds fairness in all dealings. When we act unjustly or profit from another’s loss, we misrepresent His heart. Acting with mercy and integrity reflects the justice of the One who sees all.

May this truth be one you live by, reflecting that God is a fair and just Judge toward you as you extend the same to others.

Prayer: My Father, I thank you for this truth. I thank you for being fair and compassionate in all your ways. By your grace I reflect your justice in how I treat others and to trust in your timing when wronged. Keep my heart from hardness and my hands from oppression. May my dealings always honor Your mercy and truth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
