LESSONS ON HUMILITY (I)
“Do not exalt yourself in the presence of the king, And do not stand in the place of the great; For it is better that he say to you, “Come up here,” Than that you should be put lower in the presence of the prince, Whom your eyes have seen.”
Proverbs 25:6-7 NKJV
One of the key messages throughout Jesus’ teachings is the value of humility and the dangers of pride.
In Luke 14:7, Jesus shares a parable that highlights the truth that in God’s kingdom, the first will be last, and the last will be first. Jesus Himself exemplifies this principle perfectly. His character was humble and meek, and His ultimate purpose on earth was to restore us to that same state of humility.
Evangelist Andrew Murray wisely stated, “pride must die in you, or nothing of heaven can live in you.” The greatness of Christ in fulfilling His mission on earth came from His willingness to set aside any pride or desire to be exalted, even though He was divine. In doing so, God the Father exalted Him above all. Beloved, take comfort when you are not praised. Remember that you have a secure place in God’s presence, the King of Kings. As He sees the sincerity of your heart and your patience in His timing, He will call you forward and present you in His glory.
Praise God!
Prayer: Father, I thank you for this wisdom. The chief desire of my heart is to learn from the master and be humble after his example. Help me in this endeavor for I know it cannot happen in my own effort. Thank you that you hear me, in Jesus name. Amen!
