LESSONS ON HUMILITY (II)

“The bride belongs to the bridegroom. The friend who attends the bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom’s voice. That joy is mine, and it is now complete. He must become greater; I must become less.”
John 3:29-30 NIV

Jesus and John were cousins, but John was older by a few months for it was written of Him that He had to prepare the way for our Lord’s coming.

John was filled with the Holy Spirit from his mother’s womb, and as a result, he moved in wisdom and power, leading people to repentance in a way that had never been seen before. Through John’s testimony, we learn that many became his followers and believed in his message. He showed an unwavering commitment to his calling, never expressing frustration when his followers left him to follow Christ.

Instead, John encouraged them and rejoiced in his role as a servant, remaining faithful until the end. From John’s humility, we understand that true glory is revealed when we are humble, broken vessels, allowing God’s light to shine through us.

Let the desire for greater humility be the foremost in our hearts, so that it may be on earth as it is in heaven. Hallelujah!

Prayer: Father, I thank you for this word. Our Lord Jesus said ‘learn from me, for I am meek and lowly’, and through His humility you restored us to yourself. As I follow in His steps, search and purify my heart from every form of pride and self centeredness that I may be known for leading men to Christ. I pray this in His name, for your glory, Amen!
