LESSONS ON HUMILITY (III)

“Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.” James 3:13 NIV

The greatest of wisdom is in the humility one must apply themselves to in choosing whether to or not to exercise certain freedoms. Jesus was master of this, hence being described as ‘meek and gentle’.

Charles Spurgeon captured this perfectly: “Wisdom is the right use of knowledge. To know is not necessarily to be wise. Many men know a great deal and yet are greater fools for it. There is no greater fool than a knowing fool. But to know how to use knowledge is to possess wisdom.”

So, how does this wisdom manifest? For a minister, it is a humble awareness that having deep insights into many matters doesn’t mean you should share them all at once. Rather, it’s an invitation to walk closely with the Lord, discerning when your congregation is ready for specific revelations.

For a believer, wisdom means knowing how to properly interpret the word for yourself, then applying that same grace and understanding to others. It involves recognizing when scripture is correcting, rebuking, or encouraging you, all while accepting it within the context of God’s love.

For a leader, wisdom is acknowledging that all authority comes from God and that you will be held to a higher standard, given your responsibility for God’s creation in whatever area or industry you lead.

And for all of humanity, wisdom lies in understanding that, whether we believe or not, we will all one day stand before the righteous Judge, each of us giving an account of our deeds and receiving our due reward. Praise God!

Prayer: Father, I thank you for this word. Your word is the lamp that guides my steps and by your spirit I walk in wisdom and humility as it empowers me to. May it be said of me that I exercised my self to the wisdom of the just, and in all humility that comes from above, in Jesus name. Amen!
