MINDFULNESS IN MINISTRY
“Keep reminding God’s people of these things. Warn them before God against quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen.” 2 Timothy 2:14 NIV
Paul’s letters to Timothy are a powerful guide when it comes to rightly handling the Good News.
It often takes time—and the gracious work of God—for us to understand that others aren’t necessarily wrong simply because they don’t agree with us on everything. Yet it takes even greater maturity to discern when there is actual error that needs correction. What makes all the difference is the posture of the heart. Romans 14:5 reminds us that “each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind.” This shows us that God honors conviction, especially when it is held with humility.
A person who is firm in their beliefs yet willing to yield to God’s shaping can become someone He works powerfully through. These are the very kinds of quarrels Paul warns against—arguments over words that bring no value and only damage those who hear them. Sadly, many have been driven out of fellowship because of such disputes, often fueled by recklessness and a lack of love grounded in truth.
Child of God, let this be your conviction: that your words be always seasoned with grace and truth, bringing glory to your Father.
Prayer: Father, I thank You for this truth. Let the goodness of Christ in me be what flows out to encourage those who hear me. I lean on You constantly, that Your will may be done on earth as it is in heaven. In Jesus’ name, amen.
