OF ETERNAL LIFE
“This truth gives them confidence that they have eternal life, which God—who does not lie—promised them before the world began.”
Titus 1:2 NLT
The phrase “eternal life” brings together two rich ideas: zōē aiōnios.
Zōē refers to the very life of God, a spiritual vitality that enables one to live as God intended. It goes far beyond bios, which is simply biological life. Aiōnios (translated “eternal”) does not merely mean endless duration, but life belonging to God’s sovereign reign, life of divine quality, fullness, and fellowship with Him.
With this in mind, we see how both the Gospel writers and Paul invite us into eternal life now, in our daily lives, through the person of Jesus Christ. Every man and woman who confesses Christ as Lord and Savior inherits eternal life, not as mere longevity or the absence of physical death, but as a life that transcends death itself because of its divine quality, its fullness, and its oneness with the eternal God.
This is why Jesus, who died and rose over 2,000 years ago, remains just as relevant today and will be for all eternity. This is why the children of God who lived truly transformed lives continue to leave lasting impact, even after they pass on to glory. This is why every letter of the Bible still carries life and legacy from its authors because it was God-breathed, born from convictions that reached far beyond physical existence.
Child of God, make it your daily pursuit to yield to the life of Christ in you, by the leading of His Spirit. Learn to obey that still, small voice, that firm yet gentle instruction. Honor where honor is due, and in so doing, glorify God in your fellowship.
To know Him is to have eternal life (John 17:3).
Prayer: My Father, I thank you for this word. I thank you for the gift of life eternal that I find in Christ Jesus who died for my sins, and rose for my glory. May my life be a continuous testament of your goodness to all those around me, in Jesus mighty name. Amen!
